BSA Troop # 474

About Us

Troop 474 is a traditional Scouting unit with an emphasis on the development and support of strong young men with leadership skills, strong values and exemplary citizenship. Based in San Diego, California and chartered by the The Mira Mesa Community Foundation, Troop 474's Scouts and families hail from the communities of Mira Mesa, Penasquitos, Poway, Scripps Ranch, Rancho Bernardo, Escondido, Tierrasanta and Kensington.  Yep, we're from all over!  Boys of all faiths are welcome and encouraged to become strong, confident young men.

Scouting works towards three aims. One is growth in moral strength and character. We define this as "what the young man is, himself"; his personal qualities, his values, his outlook. A second is participating citizenship. Used broadly, citizenship means the young man's relationship to others. He comes to learn obligations to other people, to the society he lives in, and to the government that presides over that society. A third aim of Scouting is development of physical, mental, and emotional fitness. Fitness includes the body (well-tuned and healthy), the mind (able to think and solve problems), and the emotions (self-control, courage, and self-respect).

At Troop 474, we seek to achieve the three aims of Scouting via three categories of thematic programming and activity by the Scouts and the Troop, our Adventure Program, Citizenship Program and Service Program. The Troop utilizes these three programs as the context for our activity and the theme of our Scouting Experience.  If you and/or your son are interested to learn more about Troop 474, please feel free to contact us!   (Try the "Contact Us" tab, to your left.)
